The Dodgers have agreed to terms with left-handed reliever Juan Perez on a minor-league contract. Perez, who will be 31 in 2010, has 24 lifetime appearances with the Pirates, but none since 2007.

He spent last season in the Braves organization and is currently pitching in the Dominican Winter League. Signed by the Red Sox, he spent his first season in the Dominican Summer League, then played six more years, moving up to the Pawtucket Red Sox.

He then moved to the Mets Double-A Norfolk team, then was sent to the Pittsburgh Double-A team later in the season. He played for six years in the Pirates organization before playing for the Braves Triple-A team in Gwinnett in 2009.

Infielder Cesar Suarez, a member of the 2009 Lancaster Barnstormers club, has been signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. The Dodgers will be the fifth Major League organization for the right-handed batting infielder.

Signed at age 16 by Cleveland, he played in the Venezuelan Summer League for three years before moving to the states and playing rookie ball for Cleveland. Injured in 2004 and 2005, he was signed by Tampa Bay.

Suarez, who will be 26, joined the Barnstormers in July after his release from the Montgomery Biscuits, the Class AA affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays after four seasons in the organization.

After a slow start in a Lancaster uniform, the Venezuela native rebounded to bat .312 in his last 34 games to finish with a .272 mark along with a pair of homers and 16 RBI.

This winter in Venezuela, Suarez is batting .326 (10th in the eight-team league) with five home runs and 32 RBI for LaGuaira.

"I'm happy any time one of our players gets signed," said Barnstormers manager Tommy Herr. "I wish him the best and I'm hoping he fulfills his dream of playing in the big leagues."
