Dodgers Agree to Deal For Posednik

Surprisingly, the Dodgers did not kick off the trading season with the addition of an arm. Instead, they will be adding the speedster Scott Posednik. The Kansas City Royals outfielder has been producing well in 2010. Tyson Qualls breaks down the trade and predicts more possible moves for the Dodgers.

Scott Posednik will help fill the gaps if the Dodgers' outfielders continue to end up on the disabled list. In order to reel in the fleet-footed outfielder, the Dodgers are rumored to be sending back two minor league prospects, Lucas May and Elisaul Pimental. May is considered to be the top catching prospect in the Dodgers system.

Essentially Posednik will be a cheaper version of Juan Pierre. With the Dodgers having shipped Pierre to the White Sox after last season, the need for more depth in the outfield became apparent as Ramirez and Ethier have spent extended time on the DL.

As Man-Ram nears 40 years old, it is certainly a smart move to add a seasoned veteran to fill in, should he miss even more time.

This season Posednik has been productive, batting .309 with 30 steals and 44 runs batted in. Posednik is easily on pace for the best season of his career.

While this may not be the blockbuster move that many Dodger fans are hoping for, it does mean that the Dodgers are not content with their current roster and are looking to improve before the deadline.

As far as the rest of the trade prospects go, the future is bleak for the Dodgers. It has been made clear that they will not be parting with the prospects necessary to acquire Roy Oswalt.

They have, however, been linked to Scott Downs from Toronto and are still in the running for Ted Lilly. Either player would add a much-needed upgrade to the pitching staff, but probably not enough for a deep post-season run.

Notes from the Dugout:

Don Mattingly Gets First Manager Gig

Mattingly will be making his managerial debut in this year's Fall League with the Phoenix Desert Dogs. Current speculations are pointing to Mattingly are the heir apparent, if Joe Torre does not return for next season.
