Giants Winter Ball Roundup: 10/25/2011

Panik has a breakout game for the Scorps. Brown and Crawford rest in the AFL. Other winter leagues take the day off. Click through for a Panik-centric roundup of Monday's winter leagues action.

Games played Monday, October 24.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE - Scottsdale 4, Peoria 8

Both Gary Brown and Brandon Crawford were out of the lineup on Monday. It must be difficult to get into any kind of rhythm in Arizona, being pulled in and out of the lineup so often. I suppose everybody is dealing with that same problem though.

Thankfully Joe Panik, the only Giant prospect to play on Monday, had a very nice game -- probably his best as a Scorpion so far. Joe went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and 2 RBI, hitting his first AFL home run. On a 2-1 count, the infielder delivered a 92 MPH fastball from the San Diego Padres' Anthony Bass over the right field wall for a two-run blast. Panik's multi-hit game raised the 20-year-old's average 33 points, up to .244 (10-for-41) on the fall campaign. Panik over: Giants first-rounder back on track National Baseball Expert Frankie Piliere says Panik is turning heads in Arizona. In Piliere's latest ScoutTV segment, he breaks down the Giants farm system -- saying it's headed in the right direction, but still in need of work.
