Giants Winter Ball Roundup: 10/26/2011

Scorpions get rained out. Belt heating up in the DWL. The struggles continue for Peguero and Graham. Sanchez makes a brief appearance in the VWL. That and more in GiantsPipeline's daily look at Giants prospects playing in the winter leagues.

Games played Tuesday, October 25.

The Scorpions game against Peoria on Tuesday was rained out, and will not be made up. Despite the rainout, we did get to see the lineup for the Scorps. Gary Brown was out again, with Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik back in. Brown says he's been battling a cold for the last couple days, which explains the time off. He broke out of his season-long slump with two hits on Saturday -- the same day he excitedly ("going HAM tonight with all the swifties!!!") went to a Taylor Swift concert. Good times.

Brandon Belt is catching fire. The lefty went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, striking out once, while batting third and DHing for the Leones del Escogido on Tuesday. Belt raised his average to .313 (10-for-32) and has hit safely in his last five games, hitting .412 (7-for-17) over that span.

Francisco Peguero, on the other hand, is ice cold right now for the Gigantes del Cibao. Peguero went 0-for-5 with a strikeout on Tuesday and saw his average drop to .184 (7-for-38). In his last three games, the 23-year-old outfielder is 0-for-13 and has struck out five times.

Tyler Graham is also struggling after going 0-for-5 on Tuesday for the Tomateros de Culiacan. Tyler is now hitting just .192 (10-for-48) on the season and has just one hit in his last four contests. However, the speedy 27-year-old outfielder did make contact in every at bat on Tuesday, including an 8-pitch groundout to end the top of the ninth, so maybe it's just a matter of balls not finding holes.

Hector Sanchez made a brief appearance for the Tiburones de La Guaira, going hitless in his only at bat while playing catcher. We have been speculating that Hector may be dealing with an injury, and although we have yet to hear it definitively, there certainly seems to be something going on with the young backstop. We will of course continue to monitor the situation.
