AFL Giants Go Out With A Whimper

In today's Winter Ball Roundup: Scorpions end AFL season on a low note. Crawford and Panik go hitless. Bradley gets shelled in relief, takes the loss. Graham explodes in Mexico. Happy Birthday, Hector.

Games played Thursday, November 17.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE - Scottsdale 2, Mesa 6

Brandon Crawford did not finish strong Thursday in the final game for the Scorps: The 24-year-old struck out in all three of his trips to the plate. Crawford went hitless in his last four games in Arizona, dropping his season average to .276 (24-for-88) with two doubles, two triples and two homers.

Joe Panik also went hitless in three at-bats Thursday, although he did manage not to strike out in any of them. Panik, who had been as hot as anyone in the league the last couple weeks, finished his AFL campaign hitting .323 (30-for-93) with six doubles, a triple and two round-trippers.

Stephen Harrold earned his second hold for the Scorpions Thursday, pitching one scoreless inning while allowing one hit. It was Harrold's twelfth appearance for the Scorps, and he dropped his ERA to an impressive 1.76.

Austin Fleet hurled two scoreless innings Thursday, allowing two hits and whiffing three. The 24-year-old finished with an ERA of an even 3.00 in 11 relief appearances for Scottsdale.

Ryan Bradley got shellacked in relief Thursday, getting knocked around for six runs (all earned) on six hits without retiring a batter. Bradley took the loss, finishing 0-1 with an ugly ERA of 23.63 in just four appearances in Arizona. The 23-year-old had allowed just one run in his three appearances prior to Thursday's game. No Giants prospects saw action Thursday in the DWL.

Tyler Graham exploded for the Tomateros de Culiacan on Thursday, knocking out four hits in five trips to the plate with a double and a run. After a great game on Wednesday, Graham looks to have broken out of his slump. The 27-year-old outfielder has hit safely in four straight games, hitting .421 (8-for-19) over that span. It wasn't his best night on the basepaths, however: the speedy Graham was caught stealing once and was picked off once as well.

Justin Christian went 0-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two strikeouts on Thursday. The 31-year-old is struggling a bit of late, managing only three hits in his last five games.

The VWL finally figured out how to keep Hector Sanchez from raking in the hits: just don't let his team play. The Tiburones de La Guaira had the day off Thursday, which hopefully gave Sanchez time to celebrate his 22nd birthday. Happy birthday, Hector!

Jean Machi got an inning of work on Thursday for the Navegantes del Magallanes, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out one. Machi dropped his ERA to 1.93 in 13 appearances.

The Perth Heat game for Thursday was postponed, nothing to report.

The Criollos de Caguas did not play Thursday, nothing to report.
