Alex Burg Stays Hot Down Under

The AFL is over, but other winter leagues are still going strong. In today's Winter Ball Roundup: Christian goes off in Mexico. Hector held hitless in the VWL. Burg continues to destroy Australian pitching.

Games played Sunday, November 20.

Brandon Belt got back in the hit column Sunday, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout for the Leones del Escogido. Belt, who hit third and played his natural first base, is hitting an even .300 (30-for-100) on the season.

Tyler Graham also went 1-for-4 with a strikeout on Sunday, dropping his average to .270 (40-for-148).

Justin Christian had himself a day Sunday for the Caneros de Los Mochis, going 3-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBI and two free passes. The 31-year-old outfielder's average jumped up to .280 (21-for-75) with four doubles and a homer.

Shocking as it may seem, Hector Sanchez went hitless in four trips to the plate Sunday for the Tiburones de La Guaira. It was only the second game in Sanchez's last 17 without at least one hit. The 21-year-old backstop's batting average dropped all the way to .389 (35-for-90).

Jean Machi earned his seventh save Sunday for the Navegantes del Magallanes, hurling one inning and allowing no runs on two hits. Machi has been excellent as the closer for the Navegantes, posting 1.69 ERA thus far.

Alex Burg continues to put up beer league type numbers for the Perth Heat, going 2-for-3 Sunday, with his fifth home run, two runs and two RBI. The 24-year-old catcher is building on a breakout 2011 with San Jose where he hit .298/.368/.550 in 72 games. Down Under he's hitting .356 (16-for-45) in 11 games.

Johnny Monell went 1-for-4 with a run and a two strikeouts Sunday, dropping his average down to .364 (8-for-22) so far for the Criollos de Caguas.
