Giants Trade Torres, Ramirez For Angel Pagan

The Giants have sent outfielder Andres Torres and reliever Ramon Ramirez to the Mets in exchange for outfielder Angel Pagan.

The move adds a top-of-the-lineup hitter to the Giants arsenal. Pagan joins Melky Cabrera as the second outfielder to be acquired by the Giants this offseason.

We'll have trade analysis from Dallas posted soon.

UPDATE 8:43 p.m. National Baseball Expert Frankie Piliere says the deal is a win-win for both clubs. Piliere reports the Mets were very active on Tuesday, adding three relievers by day's end.

Piliere says the trade is also a solid upgrade for San Francisco:

As for the Giants' end of the trade, they are able to essentially replace Andres Torres and fill his role with a far more productive player in Angel Pagan. Ramon Ramirez is a quality arm and is tough to lose but Pagan should provide some good value for them.

The 30-year-old Pagan posted a disappointing 2011 after a breakout 2010. Still, the leadoff hitter has swiped 30+ bags in each of the last two seasons.

The obvious question is: Can Pagan stay healthy and return to his 2010 form?

For the going price, it seems like a worthwhile bet.
