Jason Schmidt took the mound for the Giants, facing Kansas City's Chris George.

Schmidt rolled along for the first three innings without any trouble at all. Suddenly, in the bottom of the fourth, Kansas City broke out with three runs – two of which came on two homeruns, one by Michael Tucker and the other by Joe Randa.

The Royals snatched another run against Schmidt in the sixth when Mike DiFelice grounded into a double play, scoring Tucker.

Kansas City would tack on two more runs before the night was through on reliever Scott Eyre. After DiFelice reached on a supposed error by Scott Eyre, Desi Relaford jacked one out into the stands to add another two runs to the Kansas City lead.

The only Giants run came in the top of the sixth off the bat of Jose Cruz, Jr. who hit his 11th homer of the season.'s Player of the Game: Bah! Today definitely goes to Jose Cruz, Jr. Well duh, he's the only one who made some offense happen at all. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come. Cruz appears to be heating up a bit. His swing is once again sound and balanced.
