ST Notebook: Giants Top Padres

Giants play small ball and flash extremely aggressive base running. Gregor Blanco again leads the charge. Final Score: Giants 5, Padres 2.

--OF Gregor Blanco dropped down a bunt single in the second, so good the Padres didn't even make a throw. The 28-year-old promptly swiped second base, then scored on a single from catcher Eli Whiteside. In the seventh, Blanco walked, stole second, advanced to third on a ball that just barely got away from the catcher, and later scored on a double by Conor Gillaspie.

--OF Juan Perez hit his first homer of the spring, a titanic blast up onto the grassy berm in left.

--LHP Madison Bumgarner was dealing, striking out five over three scoreless innings, while allowing just two hits and walking one.

--LHP Jeremy Affeldt, RHP Clay Hensley, RHP Sergio Romo and RHP Danny Otero all pitched one-two-three innings, striking out a combined four batters. Affeldt earned the win while Otero locked up the save.

--IF Brett Pill and IF Brandon Belt went a combined 0-for-6 with a strikeout.

--RHP Andrew Kown got touched up for two solo shots in just one inning of work.

The Giants will return to Scottsdale Stadium to face the Reds on Friday, first pitch at 12:05 PT. Matt Cain takes the hill against fire-balling lefty Aroldis Chapman. Reports are that Friday's game will also see the long-awaited returns of both Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez.
