ST Notebook: 1 W, 1 L From Giants Split Squad

Barry Zito and Tommy Joseph led the Giants' A-team to victory against the Brewers. Final Score: Giants 13, Brewers 3. But Aubrey Huff's big day was not enough to lift the B-team over the Angels. Final Score: Giants 5, Angels 9.

--C Buster Posey reported no unusual soreness or stiffness following his first live game action in 289 days.

--LHP Barry Zito had a solid outing, going three innings and allowing just one hit, while striking out one.

--IF Pablo Sandoval had a breakout day, going 2-for-4 with a homer. Sandoval plated two runs and scored twice.

--C Tommy Joseph put on a power display against the Brewers, blasting two homers, including a monstrous two-run job over the bullpen in the seventh.

--IF Ryan Theriot had a couple of hits, including an RBI double. Theriot also drew a walk, and scored twice.

--IF Nick Noonan got his first at-bat of the spring, and promptly smoked a double to left.

--SS Brandon Crawford had an excellent game with the stick, going 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. The silky smooth shortstop drove in three runs and scored once, and is now hitting .429 (6-for-14) for the spring.

--OF Roger Kieschnick collected his first hit of the spring, a solid liner back up the middle.

--1B Aubrey Huff bounced back nicely after a couple bad games, going 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs and an RBI.

--2B Freddy Sanchez hit out of the DH spot for the second straight day, and collected his second base hit of the spring as well. Freddy seems to be swinging the bat well -- the real test will come when he takes the field on defense later in the week.

--IF Emmanuel Burris executed a nice squeeze bunt to give the Giants a 4-3 lead over the Angels in the top of the fifth.

--C Andrew Susac lined a ball to left field for a solid single in the top of the eighth. It was the highly touted Oregon State product's first hit of the spring.

--IF Brett Pill went hitless in four trips to the plate, striking out once.

--RHP Justin Fitzgerald got knocked around for three runs on five hits, including a homer. Fitzgerald only managed to retire two batters, both by way of the strikeout.

--OF Gary Brown has yet to get anything going this spring, although he has seen very limited action. The top prospect in the organization went 0-for-1 on Saturday, and is hitting just 1-for-9 so far.

--OFs Tyler Graham and Justin Christian, battling the red hot Gregor Blanco for a fourth outfielder job, went a combined 1-for-7 with two strikeouts. Christian did manage to swipe a bag successfully however, while both Blanco and Graham were caught in the act. Graham did show off some serious range in center field though, chasing down and making a nice diving catch on a high fly ball in the bottom of the seventh.

The Giants will be back to a single squad, as they take on the Mariners at Scottsdale Stadium at 1:05 PM PT. Young lefty Eric Surkamp (0-1, 8.31 ERA) will take the hill for the G-Men, up against righty Felix Hernandez (1-0, 0.00 ERA). Reports are that Buster Posey is on schedule to see four innings behind the dish.
