SF Giants Player Wire 4/13/12

The latest news on Pill, Wilson, Posey and Bumgarner.

Brett Pill (San Francisco Giants) (4/12/2012)
1B Brett Pill got his first start of the season as the Giants faced a starting lefty for the first time, Colorado's Jamie Moyer. That meant 1B Aubrey Huff was out of the lineup despite his .391 career average with three homers in 23 at-bats against Moyer. Pill went 1-for-3 and drove in the game's first run on a bloop single.

Brian Wilson (San Francisco Giants) (4/12/2012)
RHP Brian Wilson turned his left ankle during the ninth inning but called it a "nonfactor." The injury wasn't considered serious by the team. Nevertheless, manager Bruce Bochy said Wilson will be unavailable Friday in the Giants' home opener after he pitched the past two games. On Thursday, Wilson issued a bases-loaded walk before getting the final out on his 32nd pitch.

Buster Posey (San Francisco Giants) (4/12/2012)
C Buster Posey returned to the lineup Friday after resting most of Thursday's game due to shingles, which he said made him worn out. Posey is taking medication and reported improvement. He went 1-for-4 with a strikeout, and he hopes to be in the lineup for Friday's home opener.

Madison Bumgarner (San Francisco Giants) (4/12/2012)
LHP Madison Bumgarner began with five hitless innings and wound up allowing one run in 7 1/3 innings for his first win of the season. Pitching against 49-year-old Jamie Moyer, who began his career before Bumgarner was born, the Giants' lefty gave up his first hit when Tyler Colvin hit a liner to left in front of LF Melky Cabrera, who made a diving attempt, trying to rob Colvin and preserve the no-hit bid. The ball skipped by Cabrera for a triple. Colvin wound up scoring the only run off Bumgarner.
