SF Giants Player Wire 4/16/12

The latest news on Belt, Wilson, Sandoval, Vogelsong and Casilla.

Brandon Belt (San Francisco Giants) (4/16/2012)
1B Brandon Belt got his first start in a week on Sunday and scored the Giants' only run after hitting a fifth-inning double.

Brian Wilson (San Francisco Giants) (4/16/2012)
RHP Brian Wilson, who injured his elbow on April 12 at Colorado, is done for the season. An MRI showed that the All-Star closer needs season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Pablo Sandoval (San Francisco Giants) (4/16/2012)
3B Pablo Sandoval made four errors in the first nine games after making 10 errors in 106 games last year. He did make a nice over-the-shoulder grab in the sixth inning Sunday, robbing Garrett Jones. Offensively, he has hit safely in each of the nine games.

Ryan Vogelsong (San Francisco Giants) (4/16/2012)
RHP Ryan Vogelsong debuted Sunday with a loss, but he had winnable stuff for the most part. He lasted 6 2/3 innings and gave up two runs (one earned), though he wasn't pleased, calling his outing "a battle. I was inconsistent. I was just fighting myself all day. It was frustrating trying to find a rhythm." In one stretch, Vogelsong retired 12 straight batters.

Santiago Casilla (San Francisco Giants) (4/16/2012)
RHP Santiago Casilla is a likely choice to close for the Giants with RHP Brian Wilson shelved with a damaged elbow. Casilla collected six saves after Wilson went on the DL in August.
