AAA—Memphis 11, Iowa 5
Memphis (65-71) scored five times in the top of the first and got 16 hits in the win over Iowa (61-75).
At the Plate: Dave Sappelt (.241/.288/.361) had a productive day going 2-4 with a double, his 5th homer, and three RBI. Edgar Gonzalez (.254/.290/.413) walked with the bases loaded and Brad Nelson (.271/.346/.469) hit a sacrifice fly to plate the I-Cubs other two runs. Greg Rohan got his first two hits at Iowa and scored a run.
On the Mound: It was a tough day for Brooks Raley (8-10 4.56 ERA) as the lefty allowed seven runs in two innings and left in the third with an apparent blister on his throwing hand. The Redbirds got seven hits, two leaving the yard. Raley fanned one and threw 49 pitches. Jeffry Antigua (2-2 4.56) threw four innings allowing a run on three hits. He fanned one, throwing 56 pitches in the emergency outing....Alberto Cabrera (1H 1K), Marcos Mateo (2H 2R 1ER) and Eduardo Sanchez (3H 1R 1HR) all threw one inning.
AA—Mobile 2, Tennessee 0
Mobile (75-57) held Tennessee (70-651) to two hits in the shutout.
On the Mound: Nicholas Struck (0-2 3.63 ERA) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks in his six innings of work. The right-hander fanned two (102 pitches) and allowed a two-run homer....Yeiper Castillo (1-2 3.99) tossed three scoreless frames allowing three hits and walk. The right-hander threw 42 pitches and fanned one.
High A—Daytona 11, Tampa 2
Daytona (68-50) jumped on the Yankees early scoring seven runs in the third to complete the sweep of Tampa (53-73).
At the Plate: Kris Bryant (.368/.400/.684), Wes Darvill (.253/.327/.368), and Benjamin Carhart (.248/.2999/.339) all had two hits and drove in two runs as the D-Cubs had 12 hits in the win. Elliott Soto had two sacrifice flies while Anthony Giansanti and Yaniel Cabezas had two hits.
On the Mound: Ivan Pineyro had another great outing for the D-Cubs pitching into the 7th as the right-hander finished with a line of 6IP, 5H, 1ER, 3BB 6K. Since joining the Cubs Pineyro is 3-1 with a 2.93 ERA in 40 IP. He has 33 K with 7BB and a BAA of .260....Yao-Lin Wang (3-4 3.80) pitched the final three innings to earn his fourth save. Wang fanned six allowing three hits and a run.
Cubs Notes: Kris Bryant has hit in 24 of his last 25 games and in 25 of his 29 pro games.
Low A—Wisconsin 3, Kane County 1
Wisconsin (57-70) downed Kane County (52-75) to even the series at a game apiece.
At the Plate: Wilson Contreras (.243/.311/.431) had a pair of doubles and drove in the Cougars only run. Trevor Gretzky (.417/.440/.500) stayed hot going 1-3 while Gioskar Amaya (.258/.332/.379) singled and scored the only run.
On the Mound: Starling Peralta (2-2 4.40 ERA) went 5.1 innings giving up three runs on five hits and three walks. One of the runs was unearned and Peralta fanned four. Al Yevoli (0-0 3.32) had another strong relief appearance and the lefty hasn't allowed a run in his lat 8.2 innings. He fanned three in 2.2 frames allowing a hit.
Short-Season—Hillsboro 6, Boise 5—10 innings
Hillsboro snapped a five-game losing streak to Boise winning on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th to move back into first place
At the Plate: The Hawks had 10 hits and drew 10 walks but were 2-10 with RISP and left 13 runners on. David Bote, (.254/.337/.383) Lance Rymel (.268/.349/.336) and Jordan Hankins (.237/.291/.295) all had two hits while Kevin Encarnacion (.355/.438/.539) added a two-run double to tie the game at 4-4 in the third. Rymel put the Hawks ahead in the seventh with RBI single.
On the Mound: Dillon Maples (5-1 1.95 ERA) got the start and was charged with four unearned runs in the fourth. He allowed four hits and four walks and fanned two in five innings....Corbin Hoffner (2-0 1.65) gave up the tying run in the bottom of the 8th, going three frames of relief. He yielded three hits, three walks, and fanned three....Tyler Bremer (0-3 2.49) got bailed out in the ninth when OF Yasiel Balaguert threw out a runner at home to end the inning but the Hops used a hit batter, a double, an intentional walk, and a single to win it in the 9th.
Arizona Rookie League—Reds 5, Cubs 1
Reds (17-36) held the Cubs (25-28) scoreless for eight innings allowing only four hits.
At the Plate: Kevin Brown (.236) hit his first professional homer, a solo shot in the 9th, and doubled. Jesse Hodges (.209) and Rashad Crawford (.211) added singles. Ryan Sweeney went 0-3 with a walk in his second rehab game.
On the Mound: 2013 seventh-round pick David Garner (0-2 7.98 ERA) had the longest outing of his career holding the Reds hitless for three innings. He walked three and fanned four....Josh Davis (3-1 4.74) gave up a homer among five hits as the right hander was charged with five runs, four earned, and took the loss. Tyler Ihrig (2-0 0.78) gave up a hit with strikeout in two scoreless innings.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs
The Cubs (50-21) received the second seed with the second best record in the DSL as the Rangers (53-18) hold the top spot. Both teams receive a first-round bye and depending on the higher seed will play the winner of best of three series between Pirates II/Tigers and Red Sox/Giants.
