The Commssioner's office announced that San Francisco Giants prospect, Robert Antunez has been issued a 72 game suspension after violating the league's performance enhancing drug policy.
The 19 year old shortstop tested positive for a metabolite of Nandrolone which is considered a perfomance enhancing drug. The drug's primary function is to aid in the treatment of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women but the increase in muscle growth, bone density, and red blood cells make it a tempting choice for athletes.
Antunez appeared in 50 Dominican Summer League games in 2015 where he hit .321/.402/.352 with 40 runs and 27 stolen bases (90% of his attempts). His suspension will take effect at the start of the 2016 DSL which should begin in the end of May or early June.
The Dominican Giants won the league title in 2015.
