Clement Two-Hits Giants; Cubs Back Over .500

Moises Alou hit a 3-run homerun in the first inning off San Francisco starter Damian Moss, and Matt Clement pitched a complete game, 2-hit shutout against Barry Bonds and the Giants en route to a 3-0 Cubs victory Tuesday night. Clement went the distance, striking out eight in front of a rocking Wrigley Field crowd of over 40,000 in attendance.

After back-to-back singles from Mark Grudzielanek and Sammy Sosa, Alou put an 0-2 pitch from Moss (9-7) into the bleachers in left-center to give the Cubs the only run support they'd need with Clement (8-9) on the hill.

Clement allowed only six Giant runners to reach base on the evening. He carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the fourth inning before CF Marquis Grissom broke it up with an infield hit to second. Aside from that one fluke single, only the veteran first baseman Andres Galarraga would record a hit off Clement.

Clement won for just the third time in his career against the Giants. Coming into play tonight, he was 2-4 with an ERA of over 7.00 against San Francisco lifetime.

The Cubs will look for their third straight win tomorrow when a battle of All-Star's square off at Wrigley Field. Jason Schmidt (10-4) will take the mound against Kerry Wood (10-7) beginning at 1:20 CDT. The game is a national telecast on ESPN.

(Editor's note: is pleased to share this game recap with, also of network).
