The Sacramento River Cats have just announced that Matt Cain has been added to their roster to continue his rehab assignment. He is listed as the scheduled starter for Friday night's game at Raley Field against the visiting Tacoma Rainiers and former Giant Nori Aoki.
After Cain's two rehab starts, today and potentially on Thursday after the Triple-A All-Star Game. A second start date has not been announced, but his regular turn would be on Wednesday, so if San Francisco is looking to get Cain back ASAP, Thursday would make the most sense, outside of making a start for another affiliate, which would have to be High-A San Jose since the Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels will also be on midseason break.
Cain is 1-5 with a 5.34 ERA this season, but held a 3.38 ERA in five May starts which included his only win of the season against the Cubs. Cain is just two wins away from 100 for his career.
