After receiving a liver transplant in 1998, Lori Gardner and her husband have been involved with the California Transplant Donor Network and the Stanford Medical Center in encouraging the importance and necessity of organ donors. The Gardners also created a Step to the Plate Foundation to help the families of transplant recipients. The Giants' pitching coach and former pitcher, Mark Gardner, lost his wife, Lori Gardner, to liver cancer on Friday, November 28. She passed away at Stanford University Hospital. She was 39.
