Moments after Sabean's contract was extended, the first thing he did was exercise Alou's option. Sabean stated that Alou had a lot to do with how successful the Giants were last season, including their wire-to-wire, 100 games won accomplishment.
Despite the major changes on the team for a second consecutive season, Sabean and Alou are confident that they will be able to lead the team to a good season.
Alou is entering his 47th year in professional baseball, and with his contract extension, it will make 2005 an impressive 48 years for the veteran skipper.
