Giants Outlast Rangers 5-3

The Giants got the lead in the 5th inning and were able to hold onto it with an excellent performance from their bullpen.

The San Francisco Giants faced the Texas Rangers for the second time during spring training, sending up Brett Tomko against Rangers starter, Chan Ho Park. Tomko, who is hoping to be one of the Giants starters, gave up eight hits in three innings and one run to the Rangers, which was a run-scoring single by Brian Jordan. In the third, Neifi Perez hit an RBI double and Feliz a run-scoring single to put the Giants on top, 3-1.

The Rangers tied the game in the fourth with a Hank Blalock double off the right-center wall. The Giants took the lead for good in the fifth. Francisco Santos tripled off Kenny Rogers and scored the go-ahead run on a groundout by Ray Durham.

Texas did not get a single hit after the 5th inning, while the Giants kept on hitting by scoring another run in the eighth.

This was the second game the Giants have won in Spring training, since their opening day game against the Cubs on March 4, 2004.

Notes: Pitcher Ryan Jensen is hoping to make the team this year. Jensen looked impressive after this afternoon's game, giving up three hits over two innings. His fastball is looking good and manager Feilpe Alou was quoted in saying that Jensen's knuckleball "is really coming around." Edgardo Alfonzo may play in Saturday's game against the Oakland Athletics in Scottsdale Stadium. Barry Bonds will not play until Sunday to give him time to recover from the inf
