The Giants started the game off quickly. In the first inning, Barry Bonds knocked in the first run of the game with a long double off the centerfield wall. Edgardo Alfonzo followed that with his own double, bringing Bonds around to score and giving the Giants an early 2-0 lead.
The Padres came right back to tie the game with solo roundtrippers by Ramon Hernandez, in the second, and Brian Buchanan, in the third.
However, the Giants came right back in the fourth inning as Neifi Perez collected two more RBIs this Spring when he brought Yorvit Torrealba and Cody Ransom home on a base hit. Dustan Mohr padded the Giants' lead in the fifth with an RBI double.
The Padres never came back, and the Giants won 7-4 over the Padres, with Kirk Rueter earning his second win this Spring, and Matt Herges, who may be the Giants' closer this season if Robb Nen doesn't recover, earned his first save.
Notes: The Giants requested waivers on catcher, Alberto Castillo... Catcher A.J. Pierzynski missed yesterday and today's game because of a stiff neck. He is expected back into the lineup for tomorrow's game.
