Minor League Notebook: 4/8

The San Francisco Giants' minor league affiliates: Fresno Grizzlies (AAA), Norwich Navigators (AA), San Jose Giants (A), and the Hagerstown Suns (A), all started off their seasons tonight. Here's a brief look into how each team did.

FRESNO GRIZZLIES (AAA)

Game Notes:
In his first AAA game, Jamie Athas hit a two-run double in the top of the third. Todd LInden and Francisco Santos both had two hits each. Unfortunately, their runs weren't enough to take the game as the Salt Lake Stingers had a five run second inning - three of the runs were thanks to Stinger Robb Quinlann's homer.

Team Notes:
The two teams will meet again on Friday, with Brian Cooper starting for the Grizzlies against Bobby Jenks for the Stingers.

Game Notes:
Right fielder, Daniel Ortmeier drove home the winning run in the top of the eleventh with a double, giving the Navigators a win over Binghamton. Michael Cervenak hit a two-run homer in the first innigs for the Navigators.

Game Notes:
San Jose Giants starter Brooks McNiven retired the first eleven batters in the game. In the third inning, Jacob Wald hit a solo home run, giving the Giants a 1-0 lead. Carlos Sosa hit two triples in tonight's game - one in the seventh which drove in three runs, clearing the bases, and another in the ninth.

Team Notes:
Jason Schmidt will pitch in Saturday's game in a rehabilitation assignment before returning to the San Francisco Giants.

HAGERSTOWN SUNS (A)

Game Notes:
Hagerstown's Jonathan Armitage hit a two-run homer off of Michael Collar to start off the game. In the seventh inning, third baseman, Nate Schierholtz hit a two-run single on Ryan France's first pitch to break a 3-3 tie. Kelyn Acosta was able to strike out the first two batters he faced with a fastball that reached 97mph.
