SFDugout Minor League Notebook: 4/9

Here's a brief look into how each team into how the San Francisco Giants' minor league affiliates: Fresno Grizzlies (AAA), Norwich Navigators (AA), San Jose Giants (A), and the Hagerstown Suns (A), all did in today's games.

FRESNO GRIZZLIES (AAA)

Game Notes:
Damon Minor hit his first home run of the season in the first inning. This gave the Grizzlies a two-run lead to start off the game. In the second, Trey Lunsford and Brian Dallimore both hit RBI singles to add two more runs to the Grizzlies lead. With a 5-1 lead going into the ninth, the Salt Lake Stingers rallied against Grizzlies closer Dave Veres. Despite the loss, Grizzlies starter Brian Cooper had a brilliant performance, going six innings, allwoing only six hits, one earned run and striking out six.

Team Notes:
Kevin Correia will start for the Grizzlies against Salt Lake Stingers starter, Jason Middlebrook on Saturday night.

NORWICH NAVIGATORS (AA)

Game Notes:
The Norwich Navigators lost their first game of the season to the Binghamton Mets 9-3. Daniel Ortmeier hit his first home run of the year in the top of the seventh.

Team Notes:
Brad Hennessey will start for the Navigators on Saturday against Binghamton's Neal Musser.

Julien Benavidez got his first homer of the season, jacking one into left center for a solo home run.

Team Notes:
Jason Schmidt is scheduled to make an 80 pitch appearance in Saturday's game. Depending on how well he does, Schmidt could start on April 16th against the Los Angeles Dodgers. An alternate date is April 21st at home against the San Diego Padres.

Game Notes:
The Hagerstown Suns' bats continued to shine in today's game, as they beat the Legends 13-3. Nate Schierholtz hit a two-run homer to left center in the top of the third. Schierholtz would be 2-4 in today's game with three RBIs. Catcher, Dayton Buller also homered in the top of the 7th giving the Suns the lead at the time, and it was a lead they kept for the remainder of the game. Suns starter Jesse English had a rough start after stiking out only two, giving up two runs, and walking five in three innings. The bullpen consisting of Joe Bateman, Jesse Floyd, and Sean Martin, helped to keep the Suns in the game.
