Fresno 6, Portland 4
GAME NOTES: Francisco Santos, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the 7th inning, hit a walkoff three run home run to give the Grizzlies a win. Santos' homer followed walks to Dave Doster and Jamie Athas, around a sacrifice bunt by Trey Lunsford. The home run gave the win to Lee Gardner, who along with Chad Zerbe, pitch a combined 4.2 innings in relief of Leo Estrella. Estrella made his first start of the year, and went 4.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs. Ray Durham continued his fine rehabilitation, going 3 for 4 with 3 singles and 2 runs scored. Brian Dallimore had an RBI double in the 6th, while Lance Niekro had an RBI single in the 9th.
TEAM NOTES: Ray Durham is doing very well in his rehab. In 4 games, he is hitting .583 (7-12) with a home run, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. He has been caught stealing in his only attempt. Niekro remains a hot hitter since coming back from injury. After a 2-4 day, he his hitting .376 in 20 games, with 10 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs. Dallimore is batting .326. Estrella made his first start due to Lowry being called up to the majors. Estrella has allowed 26 earned runs in 33 innings this year, and has an ERA of 7.09, the worst on the team.
Akron 4, Norwich 2
GAME NOTES: Michael Cervenak provided all of Norwich's scoring with 2 solo home runs, but pitcher Julio Pavano allowed 3 runs in a 5 inning start, and Norwich lost to Akron 4-2. Akron scored 2 in the 2nd inning off of an RBI single by Oscar Salazar and an RBI double by Brandon Pinckney, and they added another on an RBI single by Ben Francisco in the 5th. In all, Pavon allowed 6 hits and no walks over 5 innings. Cervenak hit his home runs in the 4th and 9th, but the rest of the team only managed 5 hits around him.
TEAM NOTES: Cervenak's 2 home runs gave him the #2 spot in the Eastern League all by himself. The league leader is Ryan Howard from Reading, who has 17. Cervenak is also batting .316 on the year, and has a team high 47 RBI. Pavon's loss dropped his record to 2-3 with a 4.70 ERA. Jake Wald continued his unlikely hitting in Norwich, going 1-4. The shortstop who never hit above .240 in any other level is now batting .344 in 9 games since being promoted to Norwich.
SAN JOSE (HIGH-A)
Stockton 10, San Jose 5
GAME NOTES: Brion Treadway pitched a solid start for the Giants, giving up only 2 runs in 5.2 innings, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead. San Jose got ahead early after Treadway gave up a run in the top of the first, off of a Julio Cordido RBI single and then a sacrifice fly by Julian Benavidez. Hornostaj added an RBI single in the 4th. The Giants fell behind in the 8th, then tied the game on a sac fly by Brian Buscher, but Stockton took the lead for good in the 8th and ran away with it.
TEAM NOTES: Aaron Hornostaj went 3-5 and is batting .234 on the year. Brion Treadway dropped his ERA to 4.16 over 13 starts.
Lakewood at Hagerstown, Game Cancelled.
Since Lakewood and Hagerstown will not play again in the first half of the season, this game will not be made up.
