SFDugout Minor League Notebook for 7/13

An in-depth look into the San Francisco Giants minor league affiliates - Fresno Grizzlies (AAA), Norwich Navigators (AA), San Jose Giants (A), Hagerstown Suns (A), and the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes- the games played on July 13th, and who's hot and who's not.


Tri-City 11, Salem-Keizer 10 (11 innings)

GAME NOTES: The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes took an early lead in the game. They scored first when Kevin Frandsen advanced to second on a wild pitch, then moved to third and finally scored on an error by Tri-City catcher Rick Guarno. Tri-City took the lead back by scoring twice in the third. The Volcanoes struck back by scoring two in the fifth and four in the sixth. After the top of the seventh, it was 7-4 Volcanoes, adding on three more runs when, on a wild pitch, Brian Horwitz scored on a wild pitch. Ryan Strain then hit a two-run homer to right. It was now 10-4, but Tri-City wasn't done yet. They scored four runs to tie the game up in the top of the ninth, making the game go into extra innings. In the top of the 11th, Matt Miller hit a solo shot to left field, being the winning run of the game for Tri-City.

TEAM NOTES: Seven pitchers were used in the game by the Volcanoes. Aaron Sobieraj gave up no runs in the two innings he pitched, striking out 2 and maintaining a 2.89 ERA. Nick Conte was 2-4 raising up his average to .260. Will Thompson was 3-5 and continues to keep his average over .300 with a .313.
