SAN JOSE (HIGH-A):
Bakersfield 7, San Jose 4
GAME NOTES: San Jose never recovered after a strong second inning by Bakersfield in a 7-4 loss. Losing pitcher Brooks McNiven (4-7) gave up three runs in one inning, but the Giants managed to get within a run in the sixth inning, as Brian Buscher doubled to bring in Fred Lewis, who drew a walk to lead off the inning. Then, Julio Cordido doubled to centerfield, knocking Buscher in for another run. However, Bakersfield scored two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth to seal the victory, as they pounded out fifteen hits to score seven runs, while San Jose had eight hits, but only managed to score four runs.
Boise 4, Salem-Keizer 0
GAME NOTES: Even though the Volcanoes pounded out just as many hits as Boise did, nine, they were still shut out in a 4-0 loss. What contributed to Salem-Keizer's loss could be their lack of an extra base hit. They had only one in the game, and it came off the bat of Kyle Haines, which was a double in the top of the ninth. However, he was stranded along with eight other players, and the game ended with the Volcanoes being unable to bring a run home despite a three hit performance by Clay Timpner.
