Minor League Notebook for 8/26/2004

An in-depth look into the San Francisco Giants minor league affiliates - Fresno Grizzlies (AAA), Norwich Navigators (AA), San Jose Giants (A), Hagerstown Suns (A), and the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes- the games played on August 26th, and who's hot and who's not.

FRESNO:
Las Vegas 4, Fresno 3 (10)

GAME NOTES: The Grizzlies tacted on three runs in the second inning, but failed to score any more as Las Vegas kept chipping away at the 3-0 disadvantage. Todd Linden and Jason Ellison homered for the Grizzlies' only runs of the game. Losing pitcher Kevin Walker (1-2) gave up the game winning single to N Theodorou.

  • Kevin Walker: (L, 1-2) 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4.22 ERA
  • Jason Ellison: 2-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, .317
  • Adam Shabala: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K, .315
  • Todd Linden: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 K, .252

    Norwich:
    Norwich 7, Binghamton 2

    GAME NOTES: Norwich scored early and never looked back, as they supported starting pitcher Merkin Valdez (1-2) with a run in the first and the second. Norwich blew the game open in the seventh as Justin Knoedler singled to knock in a run, and advanced to second base on an error. Also on the error, Doug Clark and Derin McMains scored. Following that, Justin Benavidez doubled down the left field line for two more runs batted in and came around to score the seventh run of the game for the Gators. Binghamton scored a run in each of the last frames of the game, but their comeback was too late and too little.

    SAN JOSE:
    Did Not Play.

    HAGERSTOWN:
    Lake County 7, Hagerstown 2

    GAME NOTES: The game was tied going into the ninth, where Lake County exploded for five runs to take the game from the Suns. Losing pitcher, Brian Wilson (2-5) The big blow was by Mike Conroy, who tripled and knocked in three runs, which heightened the deficit to a point where Hagerstown could not catch up on, and a three hit game by Patrick Dobson was wasted.

  • Jesse Floyd: GS, 4.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 3 SO, 4.41 ERA
  • Brian Wilson: (L, 2-5): 2.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5.70 ERA

  • Mike Wagner: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K, .256
  • Patrick Dobson: 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K, .249

    SALEM KEIZER:
    Salem Keizer 3, Spokane 2 (12)

    GAME NOTES: Spokane jumped ahead in the fourth, but the Volcanoes kept chipping away at their lead, and eventually tied the game up with two runs of their own. Salem Keizer went on to win the game on a game ending sacrifce fly hit by Brian Horwitz to bring in the third run of the game in the twelfth inning off losing pitcher, Kevin Altman (1-4).
