Giants' AFL Prospects: week ending 10/30/2004

How the Giants prospects fared this week in the AFL.

The Rafters are now 8-11, going 2-4 during the week. Unfortunately, the Giants prospects are still contributing to that record, though less so partly because they are not used as much now as before, partly because some of them had a good week.

Mike Cervenak - hit .125/.300/.125/.425 in 8 AB with 2 SO. His power (5 HR in 44 AB at Fresno) has not shown up yet, with only 2 doubles thus far in 47 AB in the AFL.

Fred Lewis - hit .300/.462/.300/.762 in 10 AB with 4 SO, 2 runs, 1 RBI, but 2 caught stealing. He is tied for fourth on the team with 8 RBI. According to an article on the Giants website, he had a slow start because of the higher level of competition. While he has better stats than earlier in the AFL season, the power he showed during the season (SLG .451 in SJ, .478 in Fresno) has not reappeared yet, as he has only one extra base hits so far in 47 AB (a triple).

Lance Niekro - hit .222/.364/.444/.808 in 9 AB with 1 3B and 1 RBI, 0 SO. He is third on the team with 9 RBI and tied for fourth in homers with one.

David Aardsma - relieved in 3 games, first save, 3 IP, 4 hits, 0 BB, 2 SO, 2 runs, 2 ER.

Chris Begg - pushed from rotation, he relieved in 2 games, doing much better, 3 IP, 4 hits, 2 BB, 1 SO, 1 run, 1 ER.

Scott Munter - relieved in 3 games, 3 IP, 5 hits, 2 BB, 1 SO, 3 runs, 3 ER.

Martin Lee writes 'A Biased Giant's Fanatic's View' for when the mood and muse strikes him. He wants to teach and share his love of baseball and, in particular, his love for theSan Francisco Giants. He will believe to his dying days that Bobby Bonds was robbed of being the first 40-40 player and should be in Cooperstown.
