Strengths:

Brian Burres is good at avoiding giving up hits. In only one of his four seasons did he give up more than one hit per inning. He also has excellent control, walking only 30 batters in 123.2 innings in 2004. He is quite adept at striking batters out, striking out nearly one per inning every season, and more than one per inning in 2003.

Weaknesses/Concerns:

He throws quite a few wild pitches and gives up a few too many home runs, but he is generally an all-around good pitcher.

Future:

He should get a chance to prove himself at AA next season because of his excellence this year. He probably won’t get called up to AAA in 2005 because he was a late pick in the draft. He’ll have to have a full season of success at AA and then might be considered for AAA in 2006 and the majors by 2007.
