Minor League Notebook - April 18th, 2005

For two of the farm teams today, it was one run games, decided by errors and passed balls. And then there's San jose, who scored 14 runs for the 2nd straight day. Can you guess who went 5 for 5 with 2 home runs, 3 doubles, 4 runs scored and 6 RBIs? Why guess? Read it here!

Game Recap:
Tacoma prevailed in a tight pitcher’s duel, scoring the winning run in the 9th inning. Scott Munter gave it up, after walking the leadoff batter. He gave up a single with one out, and another single with two outs to score the winning run. The run broke a 2 run tie. Fresno had the lead briefly after a Justin Knoedler 2 run home run in the 5th, but Jesse Foppert gave up a run in the bottom half of the inning. Foppert went 4.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on only hits but 5 walks.

Game Recap:
One solid start for James Garcia, and one big inning helped lead Norwich to their third win of the year. Garcia went five shutout innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 walk. Meanwhile, a 4 run 6th inning put Norwich up for good. The inning got started with Norwich having a 1-0 lead, and a one out single by Brain Buscher, and that was followed by errors on 2 straight plays allowing Buscher to score. Two more singles and a double later, and Norwich was up 5-0.

14 runs, again. San Jose rained down on the High Desert, led by Eliezer Alfonzo’s amazing 5 for 5 day with 3 doubles, 2 homers and 6 RBI. Todd Jennings went 2 for 4 with a 2 run homer himself, and John Bowker is waking up from an early season slump with a 2 for 5 day raising his average to .222. The offense benefited Garrett Broshuis, who went 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks.

A passed ball decided a close battle between Augusta and the Rome Braves, 4-3, scoring Carlos Sosa in the bottom of the 7th. The decision escaped Jonathan Sanchez, who put up 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 11 and walking none. The runs raised his ERA, formerly 0, to 1.53. The offense was led by Jake Wald’s 2 for 4 day, scoring 3 of Augusta’s run, and Marcus Sanders, who went 2 for 5 with an RBI.
