Minor League Notebook - April 25th, 2005

It's Monday, which means a couple of teams got some days off. But not everyone! A couple of players notched their 3rd home runs of the young season, and one of the top pitching prospects in the system had his best start of the year. Another day in the Minors, get your notes here!

Fresno (AAA): Tucson 5, Fresno 4
WP: K. Tolar (1-0)
LP: B. Puffer (2-1)
SV: B. Medders (2)
Game Recap:
One big inning, and Fresno found them behind the Sidewinders. Trailing 3-0 in the 7th, Tucson busted out for 5 runs, 4 of them unearned, against Brandon Puffer. Puffer, who had just came into the game, gave up two singles and a walk when he gave up an RBI single with two out. After a wild pitch scored another run, Donaldo Mendez bobbled a ground ball, which kept the inning going for 3 more runs. That erased what had been Patrick Misch’s best effort at the AAA level, a 3 hit shutout through 6 innings. Misch also gave up 2 walks while striking out 6. Offensively, Todd Linden had a 2nd inning home run, going 1 for 2 with 2 walks.

Notable Performances:
Todd Linden: 1-2, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SO, .265
Micky Lopez: 1-4, 1 R, .247
Donaldo Mendez: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 E, .302
Patrick Misch: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 SO, 3.05 ERA
Brandon Puffer: 0.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 2.38 ERA
Jack Taschner: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO, 0.00 ERA

Norwich (AA): No Game Scheduled

San Jose (High-A): Stockton 8, San Jose 7
WP: D. Braden (3-0)
LP: N. Pendley (0-1)
SV: A. Santos (3)
Game Recap:
If the game were contained to just the 8th inning, San Jose would’ve won, scoring 4 runs in the 8th frame compared to Stockton’s 7. Unfortunately, the rally fell just one run short. Eddy Martinez-Esteve and Travis Ishikawa each hit their 3rd home runs of the year. Martinez-Esteve’s was a solo shot in the 4th, while Ishikawa’s was a 3 run job that powered most of that 8th inning scoring. Starter Jesse Floyd was unable to get out the 6th inning, giving up 6 hits and 2 walks to score 3 runs through 5.1 innings, giving up 2 home runs.

Notable Performances:
Travis Ishikawa: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 SO, .291
Eddy Martinez-Esteve: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 BI, 2 SO, .339
Kevin Frandsen: 2-5, 1 RBI, 2 SO, .328
Nate Schierholtz: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, .345
Clay Timpner: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB, 1 CS, .238
Jesse Floyd: 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO, 2 HR, 2.53 ERA
Nathan Pendley: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO, 3.86 ERA

Augusta: No Game Scheduled.
