Minor League Notebook - May 16th, 2005

A couple of hitters were batting 1.000 in the Minors on Monday, and a couple of starting pitchers had shutout, shut down outings. Could any of these players combine for wins for their teams? Read up, already!

Fresno Grizzlies (AAA): Oklahoma 8, Fresno 4

Game Recap:
Brian Dallimore’s reawakening couldn’t help push the Grizzlies to a win today. Dallimore, whose average dropped nearly 100 points during a 2 week slump at the end of April, raised his average back over .250 with a 3 for 4 day with a double. Doug Clark went 2 for 5 with a solo home run. But relievers Jeremy Fikac and Kevin Correia couldn’t keep the Redhawks in check. Fikac allowed 2 runs while pitching the 7th, and Kevin Correia gave up 3 in the 9th.

Game Recap:
Brian Burres only allowed 1 hit and 2 walks over 5 innings in a spectacular start, but the bullpen and offense couldn’t take it and turn it into a win. Alberto Montes gave up 3 runs in relief to take the loss, and the Navigators could only manage 3 runs on 7 hits against Akron starter Dan Denham, who went the complete game. The only Navigator with multiple hits was Dan Ortmeier, who went 2 for 4 with a triple.

Game Recap:
Jesse Floyd threw 5 shutout innings, and Todd Jennings went 5 for 5 to lead the Giants to a victory. Floyd gave up 6 hits and a walk while striking out three, and Joe Bateman threw 1.2 innings for the save. Meanwhile, Jennings hit 2 doubles, scored 1 run and drove in another. Eddy Martinez-Esteve also hit his 7th home run of the year.

Augusta rode the big inning to victory. The GreenJackets scored 7 runs in the 7th inning, powered by 2 RBI singles by Brian Horwitz and Aaron Hornostaj. Ben Thurmond threw a solid game for the GreenJackets, giving up 2 runs over 6 innings on 6 hits and 2 walks.
