Minor League Notebook - May 23rd, 2005

Jesse Foppert was back in action on Monday, but the day belonged to the hot hitting outfield prospects of the system. Eddy Martinez-Esteve and Todd Linden are tearing up the minors. Oh yea, and there's the Marcus Sanders kid, and Seung Song making a comeback. Just another wild day in the minors.

Jesse Foppert took a tough loss Monday, giving up only 3 runs in 5.2 innings but getting little run support. Foppert gave up 5 hits and 3 walks and struck out 2 in the effort. Brandon Puffer gave up 5 runs late to turn the loss into a blowout. Todd Linden, whose hot streak has caught the attention of many observers, went 2 for 4 with a triple, RBI and a walk.

Norwich only managed 6 hits, leaving starter Chris Begg with the loss despite a solid outing. Begg gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 in 7 innings. Tyler Von Schell and Brian Buscher each went 2 for 4 to account for most of Norwich’s offense.

Seung Song threw had another shutout start in his 2nd start of the year since coming to San Jose from extended Spring Training. Song went 6 innings, giving up only 3 hits and 3 walks with 3 K’s, to go with 1 hit and 3 walks in five innings his first start. Meanwhile, Eddy Martinez-Esteve continued his hot streak, going 3 for 3 with his 8th homer of the year and a walk to raise his average to .368.

A day after the GreenJackets exploded for 5 home runs, they hit 3 more, including a 9th inning shot by Marcus Sanders, his 2nd in 2 days, to win the game. Sanders went 2 for 5 on the day. Nick Conte also hit one, a 3 run homer in the 7th to tie the game, his first home run of the season, on a 2 for 4 day.
