GM Brian Sabean recently said a certain pitcher in AA was only a couple of starts away from a promotion to AAA. Who was it? Well, he's a start closer. Meanwhile, the leader of the PCL in homers hit another one (and yes, he plays for Fresno), and San Jose is the league leading team in the California league. Just another day in the Minors!

8 home runs were hit in a slugfest that Fresno couldn’t quite come out on top off. Todd Linden hit his league leading 15th homer in the first, and Julio Ramierez had 2 solo shots on behalf of Fresno. Starter Brian Cooper gave up 7 runs on 10 hits in 5 innings. Jeremy Accardo added another scoreless outing in relief.

Merkin Valdez put up another ace-like performance, striking out 10 through 6 innings and giving up just 2 runs and walking none. Brian Sabean said on Wednesday that Valdez was only 2-3 starts away from a promotion to AAA, and he helped his cause by lowering his ERA to 2.81. Dan Ortmeier hit his 8th home run of the year, a two run shot in the 3rd inning.
