Not much today, except an All-Star Game! Augusta hosted the event, see how the kids did!

Augusta hosted the 2005 South Atlantic League All-Star Game, and the hosts took it 5-3, with a couple of the hometown kids playing roles. The GreenJackets had only 4 representatives, one of whom, Jonathan Sanchez, didn’t make an appearance pitching. But shortstop Marcus Sanders showed off some of his skills, going 1 for 1, taking 3 walks, and scoring 2 runs for the Southerners. The minor league leading base stealer, however, was caught stealing. Meanwhile, right fielder Brian Horwitz was 1 for 2, with 2 RBI coming in on his single. Meanwhile, closer Brian Wilson gave up a double, but didn’t allow any runs and got a K in getting the save for the game.

A pitcher’s duel erupted in Salem-Keizer, where it took 11 innings for Yakima to put the game away. Dave McKae had 4 innings of shutout ball in the start, but Sergio Romo gave up an unearned run in his 3.2 innings. Alexander Hinshaw and Matthew Minor combined to keep things tied, but Ricky Putnam gave up 2 in the 11th for the loss. The lone S-K run came off of Charlie Babineaux’s home run.
