Minor League Notebook: July 25th

San Jose and Augusta had the day off, but there was still plenty going on. Seung Song makes his second start in AAA this season; would his hot comeback continue? And how about those rookies, would their winning streak continue? Just another day in the minors!

Seung Song made his 2nd start in AAA, and looked a lot better despite getting a no decision. Song gave up 2 runs in 6 innings on 5 hits and 6 walks with 4 strikeouts. Fresno didn’t take the lead until the 8th, however, when Tony Torcato hit a 3 RBI triple to clear the bases and give the Grizzlies a 5-2 lead. Todd Linden hit his 25th home run of the season, a solo shot in the 4th.

Patrick Misch looks more like the pitcher he was in Norwich last year and unlike the starter who struggled in AAA all this season. Misch went 7 shutout innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Tyler Von Schell had 5 RBI on the day, going 2 for 2 with a double and 2 sacrifice flies.

A 4 run 7th led to the win for the Volcanoes. Will Thompson led of the inning with a single, followed by David Maroul’s double and a Pablo Sandoval single that scored Thompson. Anthony Contreras followed with his own RBI single, and Barry Gunther got 2 RBI on a double to score the winning runs. The Volcanoes did have some problems with defense, having 3 errors that led to 4 of Vancouver’s 6 runs being unearned.

The Giant rookies pounded out 19 hits in Mondays win. Ariel Nunez went 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI and got his 16th stolen base. Greg McCarthy went 3 for 3 before being lifted. Meanwhile, Daniel Griffin went 3.2 shutout innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7.
