Minor League Notebook: August 1st

A big day for rehabs for the Giants. One very missed closer makes a rehab start in San Jose, going one inning. How'd he do? And did he have to cover first? Oh yea, and then there's that center fielder everyone booed last time out. How'd he do? Well....at least he scored as many runs as he let score unearned. Just another rehab day in the minors!

A 6 run 6th inning powered San Jose to a comeback, and a late run in the 8th pushed them over the top in Monday’s win. Nate Schierholtz had a 2 RBI triple, and Brian Buscher had an RBI triple of his own later in the inning before Jake Wald’s home run sealed off the scoring. Pat Dobson had the RBI single in the 8th for the winning run. All that nearly overshadowed the return of Armando Benitez, the injured Giants’ closer. He pitched just the first inning in his return to the field for the first time since injuring himself, and he pitched a scoreless inning, walking 1 but getting a double play to get out of the inning easily.

Notable Performances:
Nate Schierholtz: 3-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, .326
Eddy Martinez-Esteve: 2-4, 1 R, 2 2B, .328
