Minor League Notebook: August 16th

If you've been following minor league players, you'll notice that Kevin Frandsen has appeared on a couple of different teams this year. Well, get ready for another new team. The streaking 2nd baseman debuts in Fresno, on what's otherwise just another day in the minors!

Fresno Grizzlies (AAA): Fresno 6, Colorado Springs 1

Welcome to AAA, Kevin Frandsen! Frandsen, called up from Norwich while Brian Dallimore goes on the DL, went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 doubles in his first game with Fresno, and also made a spectacular diving catch to get some quick love from the Fresno fans. Meanwhile, Mitch Wylie went 7 innings, giving up only 2 hits and 1 run, walking none and striking out 7. Doug DeVore helped on the other side of the offense, getting 3 RBI on 2 doubles of his own.

Norwich found itself handcuffed by New Hampshire’s Josh Banks, who allowed only 5 hits over 8 innings to the Navigators. Only Anthony LaBarbera could solve Banks, as LaBarbera went 3 for 3 with a double and the team’s only RBI. Meanwhile, Patrick Misch gave up 4 runs on 9 hits over 5 innings to take his first loss since being demoted to Norwich.

San Jose found itself in a pitcher’s duel, but still came out on top Tuesday. Brooks McNiven went 5 innings, giving up 1 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. Jon Coutlangus went 2.2 innings in relief, and closer Joe Bateman earned the save going the final 1.1 innings. Jake Wald provided the offense, with a 2 run homer in the 5th.

Carlos Sosa went 3 legs of the cycle, getting a single, double and triple, scoring 3 runs and knocking in 2 in Augusta’s win Tuesday. Caleb Salankey went 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, one a home run. Brian Horwitz extended a league longest hitting streak to 24 games with a first inning single.

S-K lost for the first time all season to Boise on Tuesday. Taylor Wilding got the loss while allowing 3 runs over 4 innings in his start. Jose Yens hit a solo home run in the 9th for Salem-Keizer.

Ariel Nunez tripled to lead off the 10th inning, and Daniel Desouza brought him in to give the rookies an extra inning win. The triple was Nunez’s 3rd hit of the game, and it was the 2nd run he’d scored for the rookies. Tom Gornati gave up 3 hits and struck out 7 in 4.1 innings in the start.
