Minor League Notebook: August 17th

Well, one day after Kevin Frandsen makes his Fresno debut...look out! Closer Brian Wilson continues his rapid ascent into Fresno as well. But will they miss him in Norwich? Just another shuffled day in the minors!

Brian Cooper allowed 2 runs in 5.2 innings in his first start since returning from a brief stint in San Francisco. Copper allowed 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Tony Torcato went 3 for 4 with a solo home run in the 5th to help spark the offense. Kevin Frandsen cooled off slightly, only going 2 for 5 in his 2nd game at AAA, scoring 1 run and knocking in another. Meanwhile, streaking Brian Wilson made his AAA debut, striking out one without allowing a baserunner in a shut down 8th inning.

Norwich was hit hard being swept by New Hamshire in a double header. In Game 1, Anthony Moreno was blasted, giving up 9 runs, 7 earned, on 11 hits in just 3.2 innings. Tyler Von Schell had 3 RBI, 2 on a 2nd inning homer, to put up some of Norwich’s offense. In Game 2, the team missed promoted closer Brian Wilson, as Alfredo Simon gave up the lead, giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, including 2 in the top of the 7th to blow the lead.

John Bowker went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Todd Jennings added 2 more RBI on a 2 for 4 day to help lead San Jose to another win over the 66ers. Garrett Broshuis allowed 2 runs in 6 innings to get the win. Eugene Espineli pitched a scoreless inning in relief in his return to San Jose after a stint in Fresno.

Michael Wagner was the 2nd GreenJacket to go 3 legs of the cycle, missing out only on a double in a loss to Greenville. Wagner went 3 for 4 with a triple and a solo homer in the 6th. Jonathan Sanchez gave up only 2 runs in 7 innings, allowing just 5 hits and no walks while striking out 10, but Osiris Matos gave up 4 runs on 5 hits while getting just 1 out in relief to take the loss. Brian Horwitz went 0 for 3 to have his hitting streak broken.

Jose Yens hit his 2nd home run in as many days, and Mark Minicozzi added his own as S-K went back to its winning ways over Boise. Both home runs were solo shots. Chris Nieto picked up the win, going 5 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 1 walk. Meanwhile, leadoff hitter Joey Dyche stole 2 bases to give him 17 for the season.
