Matt Kinney had another spectacular game, giving up just 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 11 in 6.2 innings, leading the Grizzlies to the win. Brandon Villafuerte gave up a home run in getting the save. Angel Chavez had the big hit for Fresno, hitting a 2 run homer in the 5th for all of Fresno’s runs.

Chris Begg allowed 5 hits and 1 run through 8 innings, and Alfredo Simon returned to form as a closer for the Navigators win on Friday. Simon struck out 1 without allowing a baserunner in the 9th. Fred Lewis and Brad Vericker each had an RBI in the win.

Ryan Sadowski struck out 9 while giving up just 1 run on 3 hits and no walks through 6 innings in Friday’s win. Jon Coutlangus pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief, and Joe Bateman gave up a run while getting the save. Guillermo Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and 3 RBI from the #9 spot in the order to lead the offense.

The Volcanoes got 4 home runs to support their offense, but gave up 5 and ended up being on the wrong side of a slugfest. The Volcanoes out hit the Indians 15 to 12 and had the benefit of 4 Spokane errors, but could not make it count. Joey Dyche, Benjamin Copeland, Jose Yens and David Maroul had the home runs for S-K, but only Dyche’s shot, for 2 runs, didn’t come with the bases empty. Joseph Martinez gave up 3 runs in 5 innings.

The rookies were swept in Friday’s doubleheader. In game 1, Paul Lussier gave up 2 runs in 2 innings starting game 1, and Benigno Cepeda gave up 4 more, 3 earned, in the next two innings to seal the loss. Game 2 saw Ryan McGovern give up 3 runs in 1.2 innings of relief to take the loss.
