Quite a weekend of baseball. Salem-Keizer sees what could be the rise of the next Giants ace pitching prospect. And a couple of teams play in some slugfest games...but do they come out on top? Just another weekend in the minors!

Former Giant Damian Moss went 6 shutout innings in beating his former team’s AAA club. Grizzly starter Seung Song couldn’t match him, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks through 5 innings. Stephen Randolph gave up 1 more run in 3 innings of relief. Kevin Frandsen went 3 for 4 for the Grizzlies with a double and a walk.

Carlos Valderrama went 4 for 5, and Eliezer Alfonzo had 5 RBI including a grand slam as the Navigators blew away the Erie Sea Wolves. Brian Mazone went 7 innings, allowing 1 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7, and Erick Threets made an appearance in relief, pitching a scoreless 8th while walking 1 and striking out 1.

The Giants score 5 runs in the 5th to lead to a 7-2 win Saturday. John Bowker singled with one out, and Schierholtz added another single with 2 outs to start the rally. Brian Buscher then doubled them both home. Todd Jennings singled in Buscher, and Travis Ishikawa doubled in Jennings. Guillermo Rodriguez followed with his own RBI single to top off the rally.

A 7 run 7th inning keyed Charleston coming out on top on Saturday’s slugfest. Craig Whitaker gave up 6 runs in that inning, giving up 4 singles, a double and 2 walks before being replaced by Brian Stirm. Stirm gave up a single and double to let the final runs score before getting Augusta out of the inning. Kyle Haines went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored for the offense, while Marcus Sanders went 2 for 5 with an RBI, run, and a walk.

Wayne Foltin picked up a 3 inning save, giving up only 2 his and 1 walk while striking out 3 more. Jose Yens and Chris Stanton picked up the RBIs for the Volcanoes.

Mike Cervenak went 4 for 5, but Fresno’s pitching collapsed in Sunday’s loss. The Grizzlies had a 7-0 run lead after the 2nd, in a rally started by Tony Torcato’s solo home run, with 6 of the next 7 hitters getting hits, including Mickey Lopez’s RBI triple. But Mitch Wylie gave up 4 runs in the 5th inning, and Brandon Puffer followed by not being about to get an out in the 6th, facing 5 batters and giving up 4 runs, while RD Spiehs gave up 4 more.
