Report: Giants and Morris close to a deal

Recent reports indicate that the Giants and Matt Morris are 'close' to a deal.

Matt Morris and the Giants reportedly are closing in on finalizing a 3 year deal worth about $25 million. Morris, 31, has been the preferred starting pitcher for the Giants since free agency began. Morris went 14-10 with a 4.11 ERA in 2005 with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports the 3 year deal may also have an option for a fourth year. A physical will need to be completed before the deal is official.

Morris has been the target of the Giants since the first days of free agency, who thought he'd be a high reward pitcher at a lower price than top tier free agent pitchers Kevin Millwood and A.J. Burnett. Several other teams, including the Dodgers, Mariners, Reds, Cardinals and Rangers have all expressed interest, but as of Saturday, reports said that Morris had eliminated all but two teams, reportedly the Giants and the Reds.
