Minor League Notebook: April 12th

Fresno gets shut out. Connecticut gets a shut out. Augusta gets a shut out. And San Jose gets rained out. Yup, It's Just Another Outing in the Minors!

Fresno Grizzlies (AAA) - Tucson 3, Fresno 0

Fresno was unable to complete the sweep, but they weren't blown out like they were in Las Vegas. SP Brian Cooper gave up 3 runs in 6 innings, two which came around unearned thanks to 3B Jed Hansen's missed catch. Hansen did go 2 for 4 at the plate, though. 2B Kevin Frandsen and LF Adam Shbala each added a double for their only hits, but it wasn't enough to get Fresno on the scoreboard.

Connecticut Defenders (AA) - Connecticut 2, New Hampshire 0

SP Chris Begg had another big-time outing in the Eastern League, pitching 7 shutout innings while allowing only 2 hits and striking out 4. RP R.D. Spiehs went 1.2 innings, allowing just 1 hit, and RP Jason Waddell came in to get the final out.

2B Derin McMains had a one out single with men on first and second to get 2 runners home (which was aided by an error) in the third for Connecticut's only 2 runs. LF Eddy Martinez-Esteve continued his hot hitting, going 2 for 4 with a double (and 2 strikeouts). EME is batting .364 for the season, leading the team.

San Jose Giants (High-A) - Postponed Due To Rain

With a doubleheader already scheduled for Thursday due to Tuesday's rainout, this one hasn't (yet) been rescheduled.

Augusta GreenJackets (Low-A) - Augusta 2, Greenville 0

SP Joe Martinez bounced back from his first start with a bigtime outing, allowing 3 hits and no walks over 7 innings, striking out 5. RP Osiris Matos followed that up with a good outing of his own, 2 shutout innings with 1 hit and 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts of his own.

DH Alex Requena went 1 for 3 with a double and Augusta's only RBI. He would later come around to score on a wild pitch to get Augusta its only other run. CF Antoan Richardson went 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 strikeouts, and stole his 3rd base of the year. Requena leads the team with 5.
