Fresno Grizzlies (AAA) - Las Vegas 9, Fresno 8 (10 Innings)
Fresno's offense mounted a comeback attempt, but like many games before, it fell just short. Fresno scored 5 in the bottom of the 7th, powered by a leadoff home run by 3B Jed Hansen and a 3 run shot by 1B Chad Santos to tie the game, and the bullpen held the game even until extra innings. But RP Brian Wilson gave up a run on a walk and a hit to take the 10th inning loss.
SP Pedro Liriano went 4.1 innings, allowing 8 runs (6 earned) on 11 hits and 2 walks. RP Jeremy Accardo went 2 shutout innings, striking out 2 while allowing 3 hits. 3B Adam Shabala went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI and a run scored. LF Fred Lewis went 1 for 4, hitting a double and collecting another walk. 2B Kevin Frandsen went 1 for 5.
Connecticut Defenders (AA) - Trenton 7, Connecticut 1
LF Eddy Martinez-Esteve saw his hit streak come to an end at 13 games, going 0 for 3 before being pulled in the 7th inning following a ground out. The rest of the offense followed suit, managing only 4 hits in a lackluster loss. CF Clay Timpner knocked in the Defenders' only run with a sacrifice fly in the 5th. Timpner went 1 for 3 on the day.
SP Jesse Floyd took the loss, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and 3 walks in 3.2 innings. RF Nate Schierholtz went 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts, while 1B Travis Ishikawa went 0 for 4 with 1 strikeout.
San Jose Giants (High-A) - San Jose 5, Lake Elsinore 0
Another start for SP Nick Pereira, another win for him and the Giants. Pereira went 3-0 after going 7 shutout innings, giving up just 4 hits and no walks while striking out 5. Pereira has a 1.00 ERA after 18 innings over 3 starts. RP Ben Cox finished the game off, allowing just a walk while striking out 2 in 2 innings.
C Guillermo Rodriguez paced the offense, going 3 for 4 with a double and a home run, knocking in 3 runs and walking once. His batting average is .692 over 13 at bats, while he has also pitched, giving up a run in 2.2 innings over 2 games. 1B Julio Cordido also went 3 for 5 on the day. SS Marcus Sanders saw his average drop to .132 with an 0 for 5 day.
Augusta GreenJackets (Low-A) - Rome 5, Augusta 4 (10 Innings)
Augusta fell in the 10th as RP David Quinowski loaded the bases in his 2nd inning of work, and RP Sergio Romo came in but gave up a single to the first batter he faced. The game capped off a tough outing which saw the GreenJackets take two different 2 run leads that they were unable to hold. SP Ryan Shaver gave up 4 runs (3 earned) in 5.2 innings.
LF Ben Copeland went 2 for 5 to show some life after watching his early batting average drop to .156. RF Michael Mooney went 0 for 5 with 4 strikeouts. 3B Pablo Sandoval went 1 for 4 with a hit by pitch.
