Minor League Notebook: May 15th

The pitching is starting to come around slowly in Fresno, but now the hitting is also starting to get the job done. Meanwhile, San Jose doesn't always dominate, but they seem to be able to scratch out a win often enough for a dominating lead in the standings. Just Another Day in the Minors!

Fresno Grizzlies (AAA) - Fresno 7, Oklahoma 2

LF Fred Lewis - 1-3, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 SO, 1 SB (6), .286
CF Clay Timpner - 1-4, 1 R, 1 SO, .250
1B Chad Santos - 1-4, 3 RBI, .233
C Justin Knoedler - 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 1 SB (1), .182
SP James Garcia - 5.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO, 6.18; W, 4-1
RP Pedro Liriano - 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO, 6.87

RP Erick Threets - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO, 3.78

Quick runs were the key to Fresno's streak breaking win. Lewis walks and stole a base to lead off the game, and after a Tomas De La Rosa single, both came in on Santos' RBI single. In the 4th, two bases loaded walks scored 2 of Fresno's 4 runs in that inning.

Notes: Fresno's win put them up to 15-23, but the remain in last place out of the 4 teams in the Pacific South. The win broke a 3 game losing streak.

Connecticut Defenders (AA) - No Game Scheduled

Well, it was wet back east anyways.

San Jose Giants (High-A) - San Jose 4, Rancho Cucamonga 2

SS Marcus Sanders - 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SO, .198
SP Anthony Moreno - 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO, 4.46
RP Spencer Grogan - 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO, 3.95; BS, 1; W, 3-1
RP Thomas King - 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 1.14; H, 1
RP Brian Anderson - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 SO, 1.00; S, 9

The scoring setup came from the back of the Giants lineup, with 7th hitter Klink scoring 3 runs and Dyche scoring the other. Klink opened the scoring by getting hit by a pitch and scoring on Dyche's double. Klink scored on a Sanders single in the 5th as well. After RC tied it up, Dyche tripled with one out, and scored on a Pat Dobson ground ball. Klink homered in the 9th to finalize the deal.

Notes: San Jose is 25-11, and opened their lead over Modesto to 6 games with the win. This was San Jose's 5th win in a row and 7th in the last 8.

Augusta GreenJackets (Low-A) - West Virginia 6, Augusta 1

DH Ben Copeland - 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 SO, .271
SS Eugenio Velez - 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B (9), 3 SO, 1 E (11), .291
RF Michael Mooney - 0-3, 1 BB, 1 SO, .303
1B Pablo Sandoval - 0-3, 1 BB, 1 SO, .276
3B Anthony Contreras - 1-4, .377

RP Buck Cody - 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO, 5.84

Copeland's offensive re-emergence continued, and starting pitcher Martis re-emerged from the DL, but things didn't go so well. Martis gave up 2 runs, though one was unearned on Velez's error against the first West Virginia batter of the game. But it was Romo's surprising outing where he got pounded that left Augusta with the loss.

Notes: Augusta is 20-15, and dropped into a 2nd place tie with Charleston. They remain 5.5 games behind first place Rome.
