Minor League Notebook: May 24th

Big innings were the letter of the day. Fresno wasted a rare good start, but a big late inning made them winners at the end of it all. Connecticut actually managed two big innings, while Augusta got it out of the way early and held on. Just Another Day of Spurts In The Minors!

Fresno wasted a good start by Tejera, but managed to come back and win anyway. Tejera's 5 scoreless resulted in a 1-0 lead after Yamid Haad's solo home run in the 5th, but Liriano wasn't able to get out of the 6th, allowing 4 runs. It swung back in the 8th, as Fresno scored 4 of their own, with the big hit being Linden's bases loaded, 2 RBI single, and an RBI single by Chad Santos and an RBI double by Hutting.

Connecticut used 2 big innings late to win this one, despite getting out hit 12 to 9. In the 7th, two back to back singles by Schierholtz and Eliezer Alfonzo opened the door. After a couple of runs had come in, Jake Wald hit a triple which scored 2 runs, which was followed by a Randy Walter triple to score 2 more, and make it 6 in the inning. In the 8th, Sisk hit his 4th home run of the year, a 3 run job, to ice the score.

Errors cost San Jose a chance at victory in this one. An error by Klink missing a catch on a sacrifice bunt attempt allowed an unearned run in the 4th as Visalia scored 4 runs, while a Sanders fielding error in the 5th led to another unearned run, and a passed ball by Jenings in the 7th plated helped one more come around.

Augusta jumped out to an early lead to beat Hickory on Wednesday night. Barry Gunther had an RBI single in his only at bat of the night, in the first, to score 2 runs to make it an early 3-0 lead. From there, Sergio Romo mad only his second start of the season, but ended up winning his third straight decision, holding Hickory to just 2 runs. Gunther was replaced by Nick Conte when Conte pinch hit for him in the third for undisclosed reasons.
