Minor League Notebook: May 31st

The San Jose Giants were the home team against Stockton at 5 PM last night...and then they were the road team at 8 PM in Game 2 of the double header! C'mon, no one can travel along 580 THAT quickly at rush hour! Plus, Fresno pulls one out, and there's a shutout in Connecticut! Just Another Day in the Minors!

Palmer countered with 7 shutout inning of his own, but reliever Waddell gave up 2 singles to start the 8th inning and after a sacrifice and an intentional walk, gave up a ground out that scored the winning run.

Wednesday's doubleheader was a lesson in differences. In Game 1, the pitching simply couldn't take hold, with starter Moreno throwing 6 walks and San Jose unable to catch up. In Game 2, even though closer Brian Anderson had some problems in the final ending, San Jose was able to hold on and pull out the win and split.

Notes: San Jose is 32-21, and is 3.5 games ahead of 2nd place Modesto. Both games were played at Banner Island ballpark in Stockton, but San Jose played as the home team in Game 1. The game was a makeup for a game rained out in San Jose, and it was played in Stockton since this was their last meeting in either city in the first half of the schedule.

Augusta GreenJackets (Low-A) - No Game Scheduled.

Notes: Augusta is 27-23, and is 7.5 games behind first place Rome.
