Salt Lake City smacked around starter Matt Kinney for 12 hits and 10 earned runs, and despite a big night from their offense the Grizzlies still lost 14-12. Todd Linden, Dan Ortmeier, and Adam Shabala all homered to lead Fresno's offensive attack. Linden, Shabala, and Kevin Frandsen, each had two RBI's. The Grizzlies' offense racked up 12 hits on the night.

Notes: Fresno (27-40, 14 GB), has now dropped three straight. In the last two games, Fresno pitchers have given up 29 runs. The Grizzlies will travel to Portland to take on the first place Sea Dogs Friday night @7:05pm PDT.

Tyler Von Schell hit two homeruns including a walk-off solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to propel the Defenders to a 7-6 victory over Akron. The Defenders trailed 6-4 before scoring two runs in the eighth. Alex Requena hit an RBI double and scored on Clay Timper's single to tie it. Billy Sadler pitched 2/3 of an inning to pick up his second win of the year. Pat Misch started for the Defenders and turned in a solid performance, giving up two runs in five innings.

Notes: Connecticut (29-34, 10 GB), snapped a six-game losing streak with the win. They will take on the Bowie BaySox Friday @ 6:35 pm EST.

Inland Empire battered Jesus Reina for seven earned runs in 2 2/3 innings and Justin Thomas (1-0) fired six shutout innings as San Jose was blanked 7-0. Carlos Sosa and Johany Abreu each had three hits on the afternoon, and Tim Hutting and Mark Minicozzi had two hits apiece. 9 of San Jose's 10 hits were singles. Brooks McNiven relieved Reina and threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out three.

Notes: San Jose (39-28) has now lost two straight, but still leads second place Modesto by 4.0 games. In their last two games against Inland Empire San Jose has been outscored 17-1. San Jose kicks off a three game set against Bakersfield Friday at 7pm.

Eugenio Velez hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, driving in Jose Yens as Augusta defeated Rome 2-1. Yens had three hits in the game to lead the GreenJackets. Dan Griffin received a no-decision despite tossing six outstanding innings giving up just four hits while fanning seven. Sergio Romo and Wayne Foltin finished things off out of the pen, combining to throw three scoreless innings. Foltin picked up his fourth win of the season.

Notes: With the win, Augusta (38-29) moved to within two games of first place Rome. The GreenJackets have won two in a row and are (6-4) in their last 10 games. Augusta will travel to Kannapolis on Friday to face the Intimidators @ 7:05 EDT.
