Minor League Notebook: June 26th

Well, it couldn't have lasted forever. The Volcanoes finally saw their undefeated streak come to a sharp end. Meanwhile, Fresno gets another good start, while Connecticut's hitting disappears, again. Just Another Day in the Minors!

Fresno went into Sacramento and got a great start by Kinney to lead to the win. The Grizzlies got a scare in the 8th as Taschner gave up 2 singles, then with one out got a ground ball that could've been a double play, but 2B Juan Melo threw the ball away on the turn. Taschner gave up 3 more singles and 3 runs in the inning. But Linden drew a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to give the Grizzlies some insurance, and Wilson struck out the side in the 9th for the save.

Notes: Fresno remains in last place in the 4 team Southern division, and are now 16 games back from first place Tucson, and 5.5 games behind 3rd place Sacramento.

Connecticut's losing ways continued as they were 2 hit by the Trenton Thunder. Trenton's Jeff Karstens took care of the Defenders for the first 8 innings, giving up the two hits while striking out 7. Justin Pope picked up his 15th save of the year, going a scoreless 9th.

Notes: Connecticut is 32-42, and is now in a 3 way tie for 4th place in the division, with Binghamton and New Britain all 13 games back of first place. The Defenders have lost 7 straight.

San Jose Giants (High-A) - No Game Scheduled.

San Jose is in the midst of the California League All-Star Break.

The Volcanoes opening day winning streak is over after 7 wins. Boise's Billy Petrick shut down the Volcanoes, giving up just 2 hits over 6 innings, and he was followed by Jeremy Papelbon (brother of Boston's Jonathan Papelbon), who gave up 1 hit over 3.

Notes: Salem-Keizer is 7-1, and is still in first place in the West division, a half game ahead of Everett's 6-1 record.
