HWB: West Oahu 7, Waikiki 4
Schierholtz returned from a solid weekend with another day to forget. Schierholtz ended each inning he batted in, including a line drive in the 7th that was caught by the shortstop and turned into a double play.
Minicozzi had a better day. He singled to lead off the 3rd, and stole 2nd base. He would come in to score on Dexter Fowler's triple, and was one of 2 runs that gave Waikiki a temporary lead. Minicozzi committed an error in the 4th, but it didn't hurt the team. Minicozzi got on thanks to an error in the 5th, and later scored. Minicozzi also walked with 2 out in the 6th, but that didn't turn into anything.
Quinowski came in in the 8th with the CaneFires already up 6-4. With one out, he gave up a walk and then a double to Yasushi Iihara to give up a run.
AFL - Scottsdale 7, Peoria Saguaros 4
LF Fred Lewis - 1-4, 1 R, 1 3B (1), 1 BB, 2 SO, .250
1B Travis Ishikawa - 0-3, 1 BB, 1 SO, .000
SP Matt Palmer - 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO, 5.40
RP Billy Sadler - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO, 0.00; S, 1
The AFL got started, and 4 of the 6 Giants prospects on Scottsdale's team got action. Lewis tripled in the 5th inning with 1 out, and would score on Terry Evans Jr.'s single, bringing the Scorpions within a run, 4-3, of Peoria. Lewis also walked in the 3rd.
Ishikawa's debut was less auspicious. He did manage to draw a walk in the 7th on a wild pitch by Daniel Foli.
Palmer started the game for the Scorpions, and his 1.2 innings pitched was the longest stint of the 8 pitchers that threw for Scottsdale today. His first inning was marred only by an error by second baseman Danny Richar that allowed Kory Castro to reach base. In the second, however, Palmer gave up a walk to Jason Jaramillo and a single to Chase Headley to lead off the inning. Palmer got two strikeouts, but then gave up a single to Seth Bynum to load the bases. Sadler then walked Brett Gardner to force in a run, and was replaced by Bill Edwards, who got the third out without allowing anymore runs.
