Four Reading Fightins going to showcases

Honors are swirling all around the Reading Fightins. First, Jim Murphy was chosen as the Eastern League Player of the Week and now, Murphy and three others are picked for mid-summer classics.

It's that time of year; all-star games abound and for four Reading Fightins players, there are trips to be made. In fact, for Jesse Biddle, there are two appearances for him to make in mid-summer classics.

Biddle (3-7, 3.21) has been chosen as one of three players to represent the Reading Fightins in the Eastern League All-Star Game to be held July 10th in New Britain, and he has also been chosen as one of two Phillies prospects to play in the Futures Game scheduled for July 14th at Citi Field in New York.

For the Futures Game, Biddle will be joined by third base prospect Maikel Franco, who recently joined the Fightins and has been swinging a hot bat ever since arriving. In seven games with the Fightins, Franco is hitting 3-7-.483/.500/.897 and hasn't struck out in 43 at-bats dating back to his time with the Clearwater Threshers. He also has a 14-game hitting streak between the two levels during which he's hitting .446 (25-for-56) with eight home runs and 17 RBI.

Since the Futures Game is made up of teams from the United States and The World, Biddle and Franco will be on opposite sides, meaning Franco could actually face Biddle in the game, making for an interesting match-up.

In the Eastern League All-Star Game, Biddle is joined by second baseman Albert Cartwright (4-20-.248/.313/.350) and first baseman Jim Murphy (15-47-.293/.358/.525), who is the reigning Player of the Week in the Eastern League.
